I’m a little confused about your certainty that January 6 is Trump’s “last effort” and the “impossibility” that his effort will not be a strong one. Even the New York Times article you link under “Legally, Pence Cannot Do That” is actually titled “Will Pence Do the Right Thing?” and implores him to follow the example of George Washington. And then there is the talk about martial law.

Hopefully, there won’t be any major street confrontations around January 6, Pence will certify the results of the Electoral College properly, and Biden will be inaugurated on January 20.

But the last line of the New York Times article is: "This is no time for anyone to be a bystander — our Republic is on the line."

Hopefully it will not be necessary, but if events start to head in a dark direction The Pledge to Safeguard the Election (https://sign.moveon.org/petitions/pledge-to-safeguard-the-election) is a vehicle by which individual American citizens can shape events rather than being passive “bystanders”.
