Wake Up America! What if Trump Loses the Election and Really DOES Refuse to Go Peacefully?
It Doesn’t Matter if He is Speaking “Literally” or “Metaphorically”
These two quotes from President Trump when put together should send shivers down the spines of all Americans. They should cause us to armor our backbones with steel indignation, but more importantly inspire us to have the resolve to do what’s necessary to prevent what they imply from occurring.
“They ask me, ‘If you lose, will there be a friendly transition?’ Well, when I won, did they give me a friendly transition?”
And regarding his inability to send federal forces into some cities to quell protests this summer. “Unless it’s a strict emergency, we’re not allowed to go in. We’re going to find more and more emergencies.”
What if these “emergencies” were linked to the post-election process? What if they were initiated under the guise of “election improprieties”? And what if the use of armed force was then justified under the Insurrection Act to put down protests against Trump having declared such states of emergency in the first place?
We have become numb to Donald Trump making what seem to be outlandish statements, only to watch as he follows up those statements with outlandish actions. His supporters extol how Trump “says and does what he means”; whereas his opponents talk about how he lies and that his supporters “understand his words metaphorically, not literally.”
Trump’s statements are alarming if they are “literally what Trump means to do.”
However, they are equally alarming as “metaphors”.
Trump might say that these kinds of statements are how he “negotiates deals.”
But the United States Constitution and our electoral processes are not “up for negotiation.” They are not subject to any kind of “deal” or compromise except for how they might be amended through our established constitutional and electoral procedures.
That Donald Trump may self-pityingly think he has been “treated unfairly” or in an “unfriendly” manner is not the issue. Many people have died or lost limbs or have been horribly disfigured physically and mentally defending our Constitution. But most of those who survived do not wallow in self-pity or talk about how “unfairly” they were treated. They know they sacrificed for something vitally important and larger than themselves.
The pettiness of Trump’s remarks should cause indignation in all of us. But we should all also by this point be far beyond “indignant”.
We need to TAKE ACTION to counter what Trump might even be “alluding” to. Too often what have seemed like outlandish, ridiculous statements by him have gradually laid the foundation for actual undertakings.
The Pledge to Safeguard the Election is designed to take action against the most IMMEDIATE problem: the possibility that Donald Trump will be voted out of office but will refuse to leave in a “friendly” manner or even a peaceful one (which are two different things). Both of these documents are intended to inspire your ACTION. Sign them. Share them with others on social media.
Taking the time to do this will require far less effort than you will make in the act of voting. And it would certainly be far less effort and sacrifice than others have made defending our Constitution.
Maybe Donald Trump is just talking (“metaphorically”). If so, we should be insulted by the cheap way in which he demeans us as American citizens, our Constitution and those who have defended it.
But maybe he is not just “speaking metaphorically”. Maybe he intends to do exactly what he says (as his supporters claim that he always does).
If so, we need to ACT NOW to preempt him. We shouldn’t wait for Donald Trump to make the “first move.”
